It’s close to Memorial Day, so I went ahead and downloaded the helmet schedule for next season. After my first glance at the schedule, a few questions started bubbling up:
** Can Manziel become the first repeat Heisman winner since Archie Griffin from the 1970s? Heck, he may have a tougher time repeating as the All-SEC quarterback.
** Speaking of that, who will be the SEC’s top quarterback this year? A.J. McCarron, Aaron Murray or Manziel? That should be an epic battle.
** Can the hurry up offense of Gus Malzahn have as big of an impact at Auburn as Hugh Freeze’s did at Ole Miss last year?
** After a remarkable 2012 season and a bang up recruiting class, how will Freeze’s Rebel Black Bears fare on the field this year?
** LSU is as talented as any team in the league, but can they get the better quarterback play they’ll need to win the West?
** And how do all of the defections from last year’s team affect the Tigers? Could it be addition by subtraction?
** Does James Franklin’s Vanderbilt squad continue their momentum in year three or do they take a step back?
** A couple of year’s ago, Dan Mullen’s Mississippi State Bulldogs seemed to have pulled away from in-state rival Ole Miss. My what a difference a year makes. Can Mullen’s Dogs bounce back?
** Can Butch Jones revive a moribund UT Vol program?
Wow, there’s a ton of questions to consider, but we must pace ourselves. After all, it’s still May. Hopefully, we’ll get a chance to talk about these over the summer.
