As you may have heard, Alabama offensive guard Anthony Steen’s career with the Tide is over following an injury:
Senior Anthony Steen underwent shoulder surgery for a partially torn labrum after the regular season ended, according to a source.
Steen has started most of the last three seasons for Alabama and was honored by the Associated Press as an All-SEC second team offensive lineman.
It’s uncertain when Steen suffered the injury or how much pain he played through, but getting the surgery done now instead of after the bowl game should give him a head start on NFL draft prep.
This item showed up on my radar via a story on AL.com filed by Alabama beat writer Michael Casagrande (who’s not a bad writer). But upon reading the article, it’s clear that Casagrande is simply rehashing a story posted on CBSSports.com. Now, Casagrande may be on vacation or off sick or whatever, but he’s not AL.com’s only ‘Bama beat writer. And that makes you wonder how on earth CBS can break a story like this ahead of the local media.
