As we round the corner and head toward the West Virginia game on Saturday, most of us have one primary concern related to Alabama…quarterback play. Regardless of who the starter is, or how or if the playing time is split, we all just want consistent, winning quarterback play.
This Alabama team is very stacked at almost every position. Even the specialists – the placekicker and punter – appear to be oozing with talent. Yes, there are questions at linebacker and, yes, we’re all wondering how the corners will play, but I think we all believe the talent level will make everything all right. For all of the positions except for QB, that is.
My guess is that Blake Sims will start the game and to venture a guess, I’d say he’ll play around 70% of the snaps. I believe Sims is the clear start for the time being and as such, he’ll be the guy being asked to get us through this game. Keep in mind that we’re not only breaking in a new QB, we’re also breaking in a new offensive coordinator and we need a situation where he can get comfortable calling the game. I do think Jacob Coker will play and play early, but unless he does something spectacular, I don’t think we’ll see much out of him.
If we can build any sort of lead, what we may see is a switch to Coker – along with the rest of the first team – and we’ll see how he does running the show with the starters. If we can build a lead…
