Week 10 Review

Coming out of the bye week with a 74-9 record…

1) Georgia 23 Florida 20 [Prediction: Georgia 24 Florida 21]

  • Pre-game: “It’s strength-on-strength, sort of, in Jacksonville this Saturday.  With Todd Gurley back, at least the Dawgs will have one weapon this week.”
  • Post-game: Gurley was just enough to squeak the Dawgs to a win.

2) Kentucky 48 Alabama State 14 [Prediction: Kentucky 31 Alabama State 20]

  • Pre-game: “Win number two should come this week for the ‘Cats.”
  • Post-game:  Enjoy win numbers two, Kentucky.  It’s likely your last one until next year.

3) Missouri 31 Tennessee 3 [Prediction: Missouri 34 Tennessee 24]

  • Pre-game: “The Tigers are a better team and should win this home game, but UT is improving and should show better than they did last Saturday in Tuscaloosa.”
  • Post-game: There wasn’t a sign of the mid season momentum for the Vols.  Bowling now is in serious doubt.

4) South Carolina 34 Mississippi State 16 [Prediction: South Carolina 38 Mississippi State 21]

  • Pre-game: “If the Gamecocks have any nine lives, they’ve probably used eight.  They probably won’t need the last one against State.”
  • Post-game: Carolina keeps its SEC East hopes alive with an easy win over the Dogs.

5) Auburn 35 Arkansas 17 [Prediction: Auburn 44 Arkansas 14]

  • Pre-game: “Some coaches just have the knack for insulting other teams just enough to get hammered.  I think maybe Bret Bielema has that knack.”
  • Post-game: The Hogs didn’t get hammered, for sure, and played a bit better.  Key mistakes, questionable play calling and a keen ability to not tackle Auburn’s ball carriers until they were at least eight yards down field all helped get the Pigs beaten.

6) Texas A&M 57 UTEP 7 [Prediction: Texas A&M 63 UTEP 31]

  • Pre-game: “The big question here is how far into the second half Johnny Manziel plays.”
  • Post-game: Don’t look now but the Aggies have put together decent defensive games in succession.  No, don’t ask who they played.

Week 10 Picks

The Tide may be off, but the picks any our 68-9 record rolls on…

1) Georgia 24 Florida 21 – It’s strength-on-strength, sort of, in Jacksonville this Saturday.  With Todd Gurley back, at least the Dawgs will have one weapon this week.

2) Kentucky 31 Alabama State 20 – Win number two should come this week for the ‘Cats.

3) Missouri 34 Tennessee 24 – The Tigers are a better team and should win this home game, but UT is improving and should show better than they did last Saturday in Tuscaloosa.

4) South Carolina 38 Mississippi State 21 – If the Gamecocks have any nine lives, they’ve probably used eight.  They probably won’t need the last one against State.

5) Auburn 44 Arkansas 14 – Some coaches just have the knack for insulting other teams just enough to get hammered.  I think maybe Bret Bielema has that knack.

6) Texas A&M 63 UTEP 31 – The big question here is how far into the second half Johnny Manziel plays.

Week 10 Review

A 3-2 Week 10 Drops the record to 62-9…

LSU 9, Alabama 6 [Prediction: Alabama 23, LSU 20]

  • Pre-game: “In the pre-season, I picked LSU to win this game simply because I wasn’t sure what kind of quarterback play Alabama would get.  AJ McCarron has taken over nicely for the Tide and if he can keep from turning the ball over I think the Tide can pull out a win.  This game has been analyzed every way under the sun, but as Coach Bryant used to say, it’s the same old things that win and lose ball games.  Turnovers, big plays and the line of scrimmage.  Whoever performs the best in those areas can win the game.”
  • Post-game: More on this later.

Week Ten Picks

Well, here we go, the big week has finally arrived…

Alabama 23, LSU 20 – In the pre-season, I picked LSU to win this game simply because I wasn’t sure what kind of quarterback play Alabama would get. Whoever performs the best in those areas can win the game.

Arkansas 28, South Carolina 27 – To put it simply, Arkansas has underwhelmed us this year.  Despite being 7-1 on the year, the Hogs haven’t seemed to hit their stride just yet.  The Gamecocks also sport a 7-1 record so far and have also underwhelmed so far.  I think the Hogs have just enough offense to squeak by for one more week.

Ole Miss 21, Kentucky 20 – This game is almost as bad as the Bama – LSU game is good.  The Rebel Black Bears and Wildcats will meet in Lexington, but very few people care.  The RBBs haven’t finished games well this year, but should have just enough in the tank to pull out a win.

Mississippi State 40, Tennessee-Martin 14 – The Bulldogs begin their bowl push with an easy win over the Skyhawks.

Florida 30, Vanderbilt 27 – Both teams’ bowl hopes are on this line in this battle of two teams headed i opposite directions.  I’m not sure why I picked the Gators other than I don’t see the Dores winning in Gainesville.

Georgia 55, New Mexico State 0 – The Dawgs may have to play five wide the whole game because they have no running backs.

Tennessee 42, Middle Tennessee State 14 – The Vols get back on the winning track with a win over the Blue Raiders.

Auburn – The Tigers have an off week before their annual rivalry game with Georgia.
